Transcript:
Janis: Are you glad you don't have to wear a tie to work anymore?
Arlo: Yeah, I guess...
Arlo: But I don't trust them!
Arlo: I suspect they don't pay as much severance to people without ties.
I worked in a machine shop nights. Went in to pick up my pay during the day wearing a very nice camel hair jacket and a Hermes silk tie. Foreman looked right at me and said: “Can I help you sir?”
Wearing a coat and tie to church comes from the still-surviving Victorian doctrine that God only loves the rich. We are not so restrictive, rejecting the doctrine that the Trinity consists of Hart, Shafter, and Marx.
When it comes to the dress code of the movie theaters, only the managers wear ties and that’s typically the males, and the other employees don’t usually wear ties, but it does depend on the movie theater.
nightgaunt: I re member in seminary hearing about clergyman from northern India who returned from a conference of the Church of South India. Asked the most significant thing he learned from the meeting, he said, “That you can be a Christian and still not have to wear a tie.” The 19th century missionaries (and to a lesser extent still around today) never learned the difference between Christianity (a Middle Eastern religion) and European culture.

The only reason to wear a tie at work is so you can loosen it to show that you’re really working.

“Ties went the way of hats…long gone!!!”
Personally, I really enjoy wearing a good hat, but I’m glad it’s no longer de rigueur…

Vulturescircle, I agree. And both ties and skirts should be worn loosely…..but, bow ties are weird…….
