Yesterday, several people raised the hoary old criticism of the December date for celebrating Christ’s birth. “We don’t know when he was born”, it goes, “but we know it could not possibly have been at this time of year, because ….”
It’s true that no-one KNOWS the exact date with certainty. It MAY be true that the date was chosen with a view to winning support from people who were used to celebrating the winter solstice. BUT if that’s how it happened, they made a remarkably good guess, because there is strong evidence that the traditional date is correct, or very nearly so.

The Queen of England has an “official” birthday that is months away from her actual birthday. So new? Millions of people on this earth don’t even know the day they were born. As long as you know what you’re celebrating and why, the day doesn’t matter.
Here’s a thought about JCs real birthday. The New Testament claims that Jo & Mary were on their way to pay their taxes. Here, I pay my annual property tax on December 20th, the deadline. Any possibility that date is common throughout the U.S., and that it’s even more prevalent elsewhere in the allegedly civilized world as a holdover from Roman times? Well, it was just a thought. By the way, taxes here can be paid in two installments, half in December and half the following June..
Ask a Jehovah’s Witness and they’ll say “October”. Ask a Latter-Day Saint, and they’ll say, “March”. An astronomer will tell you the date is December, but off by 3 yeaars. maybe it’s best kept in our hearts.
If you are a believer that’s just find, but please do not commit to proselytizing on an op. ed. unless it is the subject, otherwise do stay on subject of the op. ed. This one happens to be about a egocentric dog representing an entire flock of sheep and not about garnering more adherents to this particular religious mythos. …just waiting for Godot.
