Mmm! Nothing tops leftovers! (Interestingly, I may have eaten brains for Thanksgiving as a kid many years ago—my Italian grandmother used to make ravioli completely from scratch as a holiday treat, and one of the ingredients of the stuffing wasground calves’ brains, mixed with spinach and cheese and whatever else the recipe included.)

So, my mother wasn’t the only one – although she would have NEVER served ravioli ‘cos it was “foreign”. We’d have just had the brains on a plate. with some overcooked veg and mashed potato.

For some reason my wife liked calf brains scrambled with eggs.

If you lived during the depression, as a kid, you ate a lot of what were called cheap variety meats. Tongue, brains, heart, kidneys, pigs feet, pigs snouts, etc etc We never had tripe, however.
