Hmmmm… If the Good-O-Meter’s name is to be believed, it seems like it should provide a rating, not a ranking, a mesurement on some absolute scale from zero to whatever (a buzzillion?). It would then have to be compared to to data set of all ratings worldwide to provide a ranking. If Agnes misheard or misunderstood the priest’s answer, and she’s actually in the buzzillionth percentile, that’s quite an accomplishment indeed.

Besides, Calvin was right when he said that judgments of goodness should take individual character into account. If a child is naturally well-behaved, and actually likes being good, where is the merit in his good behavior? Those children with more imagination and initiative must struggle to repress their natural inclinations toward rambunctiousness, and that effort should not go unnoticed (or unrewarded).

There’s even biblical support for this: I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Luke 15:7

Thank you, Fritzoid. Lots of food for thought there, and lots of similar patterns. Hope’s basis, which does spring eternal…

Of course, Agnes is Catholic. That explains a lot.

Check out this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrLzYw6ULYwIt is a pretty funny look at what a Good O Meter would look like.
