Alice: Ooh! It's a commercial for the toy that Nara was talking about! It's got new and advanced doll technology! Nara: It's called Li'l Drowskykins. When you tip it over the eyes close! It's THE must-have toy this Christmas! Petey: I'll remind Santa not to bring me one. Alice: I hate toys that fall asleep. It's like they think I'm boring or something.

You’ve got a point there, Alice. (But I also endorse Petey’s position!)

Such dolls existed in the 1940s. The closing of the yes was effected by the eyes being on an axis with a weight suspnded from it.

Didn’t the dolls 60+ years ago do that?

sounds like me circa 1972. Just add red to the eyes.

Baby dolls in my day did that. I liked the dolls that could wear a formal gown (even though they had no shape to hold them up)- mine were made with scraps of mom’s dresses.

Wait, didn’t Nellie Olsen’s doll do that in one of the Little House books. In that case were talking over 140 old technological improvement.
