I think you are the one not listening. Most of them have been downsized by companies that regularly hand out multi-million dollar bonuses to CEOs, or lost their homes to the greedy Wall street caused Depression we are in. Most would love to work and eat.
I once saw a sign in a McDonald’s window seeking employees. In the next block at a traffic light I saw a panhandler. I stopped and told him about the job opportunity. He replied that he could make a lot more than $7 an hour panhandling.
