one year worked in a downtown (Loop) store, for a Holiday Bonus we were “given” a beautiful large turkey, after the holidays the cost of the turkey was deducted from our next pay check, they were surprised we were upset, our bonus was being able to buy the turkey from the owners special supplier (friend) where they bought the “gift” turkeys for the best customers…

I actually supplied this sad story. It happened at a job I had back when I was starting up my Patty-Cake comic. I remember the stupid box laying there, and the looks on our faces.

Two of my brothers once worked for a company whose Christmas bonus to its hard working employees was a first aid book. Doesn’t that say Ho Ho Ho?

Anyone else have some good tales of clueless Scrooges?

One very large company I worked for typically gave employees dscounts on product sold by divisions of the company that were not meeting their sales goals. There were discounted fire place tools (we lived in the desert southwest where fireplaces were rare) and holiday greeting card sets from Australia, but one year in a fit of generosity they gave us water conservation devices, as many as we needed. Yes, they gave us flow restricting washers to put in our water lines.

Although I never saw a Christmas bonus, being in the public sector (I am a retired Middle School teacher), my brother once brought home a cheesy clock made out of ash trays glued together as a christmas gift from his employer.

I would like to tell a sad Christmas bonus/Christmas gift story from the mid 80s to 2004. However, none of the companies I worked for in that time period ever gave them.

Not a Christmas story but, I worked at one place were we worked late because the boss told us he would buy us dinner if we would. When we got done he plopped down a loaf of bread and a package of bologna. He wondered why no one would work late after that.

I had one job soon aftter moving to AZ in 98 where I was hired late in the year in a small company as the 3rd of the 3 draftsmen. The secretary/office manager came around early in December taking up a collection for a gift for the boss and wanted $20 each (more than 2 hours pay) but I had little choice as the newbie. I figured we would get a reasonably good cash bonus. It turned out to be just $10.+++++On the other hand, back in better times (around late 80s) our companies often had elaborate parties as well as a generous bonus based on the company profits. My best bonus was a full $3000 with which I paid off the car loan from my dad and (on sale) bought a beautiful and unusual fur stroller coat (I’m short) of Norwegian Fitch and Black Fox. In my younger days one of my first drafting jobs, the bonus was just a turkey and I remember riding my bike through the snow in the treads from cars while balancing the turkey hanging from the handlebars – Things change, for better or worse!

I think I remember one of my brothers getting a cornish hen. Just like on SCTV. But man, give $20 and get back 10? What was that, a Christmas pyramid scheme?
