Actually, when Dick Moores wrote & drew the strip he centered it on Clovia & Slim.

Like it or not, they are the current owners of Gasoline Alley (assuming it’s set in a community property state), and as such, they are the hub of activity. Everyone else is defined in relation to them. I find Slim frustrating, in that we rarely see the side of him that Clovia admires. They both really do have kind souls, and it was Slim that used to keep Clovia’s natural anger in check. The strips where they adopted Rover (which you can find for purchase if you look on Amazon) really show what their marriage is all about. The fact that Slim is now a shell of Moore’s depiction is a shame, and somewhat reduces GA to silliness.

I agree that the strips involving Rover’s adoption were really strong. When this strip going right it’s my favorite and when it goes bad it’s the worst.

I thought Clovis was the sensible one, but then she did marry Slim.
