The antique car market might crash if we started trading with them.

You are absolutely correct. The sad part is that it has not mattered who was in the White House, none of them to date have had the intellect, courage, or vision to do what is right and smart, i.e. to end the embargo.

Oh, come on. Sure, the embargo’s stupid, but it’s there for the same reason that drug use will never be legalized. It means a complete change of elites in this country, and the current political upper class ain’t going without WE fight all of them.

That’s what YOU think. I know someone who got caught at the US-Canadian border with Cuban cigars — like a box for himself, not a crate or anything — and from then on whenever he crossed the border (which he had to frequently, as our company was half in Vancouver), he would be stopped, searched, and harassed.

We’ve been getting “dry foot” folks for decades, while other nation escapees get sent back. Stupid policy. The end of the boycott might lead to a real price collapse in the car collector’s parts market for 50’s era “factory new” or after market parts for Fords, Chevys, Chryslers, and Checker!! But hey, if we can get their oil, under development for production, the wall WILL come down, pronto!

This is the Ileana Ros-Lehtinen crowd (old green tooths) that are making travel to Cuba a pain in the butt. The younger Cubans (I know a few) want to travel to the island, but the older ones are keeping the Balarts and the Lehtinens in power, thus ensuring that travel to the island remains iron tight. This is why everyone (including non-cuban Latinos) say that Miami is the land of the Cuban. Just look at the local politicians: most of them are Cubans.

Castro sucked, but folks who remember Batista, realize he wasn’t really that bad. The difference was, Fidel threw out the Mafia operations, and THAT was the biggest problem for U.S. “businesses”.
