This is the first Mutt and Jeff cartoon I’ve seen here that I also remember seeing in the paper.

I remember, because I’m of Scots ancestry on my father’s side…and when Dad saw this cartoon, he was so indignant, he actually wrote a letter to the editor:

“…and if you EVER print something like this again, I’m going to stop borrowing your newspaper.”

A Scotsman will tell you he is a Scot but that scotch is a drink. Don’t know what the Crimson King would think about it.

If the men in that joke had been members of any other people besides white, it would have been called racist.

Maybe Jeff meant someone who really loves drinking Scotch, rather than a Scotsman.
