Just behind lovely Joan’s shoulder is Esmeralda—Looking like she just popped off the cover of a pancake box.. Burroughs would have been familiar with this face and bandanna since the image came from a character Old Aunt Jemima played in the traveling minstrel shows after the Civil war, A song written in 1875 for these shows was"Old Aunt Jemima, the female character of course was played by a White Man in black-face. Her face became the pancake box trademark by the Davis Milling co. in 1913—later bought out by the Quaker Oats Company in 1928.. She’ll naturally become the scared and frightened one in days to come.

Good morning—Sydman and jmcx4—Thanks for the compliments to me and Katman yesterday. You’re all a good and hardy crew—all we need now is for WW2Marine to eventually stir from his bunk to see what’s happening in the excitement to come!

Are the two older guys looking for something other than who threw the spear? They haven’t seen Tarzan yet and I don’t think they saw the note on the door.

I once met Aunt Jemimah when she was doing a promo in a grocery store. Very nice lady.

Of the the two older gentlemen read it to the sailor shortly before Tarzan nailed the sailor in the shoulder with a spear.

It is funny how William Cecil Clayton, the young man depicted here, dresses in full gear like for a meeting with General Motors execs.

As you will hopefully see the two old men are just carried away by their intellectual curiosity as they marvel at the jungle flora and fauna.

Hmmmmmmm……I wonder if Esmeralda knows how to make pancakes? I’m sure there are plenty of bananas and coconuts about right next to where the mambas live! :)=
