Can’t blame Raeside, these things are written and submitted weeks, if not months in advance….Scott Adams has mentioned it before – near the time of Mother Theresa’s death, he had the PHB survive a plane crash because it was full of fat nuns. Calvin and Hobbes had a tornado go through a trailer park just after (like 1 or 2 days) after the second worst tornado in Canadian history (Edmonton 1987).

Did you notice who was reportedly one of the first off that Italian liner?? – the Captain who drove it onto that reef! Meanwhile his passangers were left behind to drown!

This reminds me, I want to see Alvin & the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. You could easily replace Toulouse with Alvin or Theodore in this and it would work.

One possibility is that there was an explosion in the engine room, causing an interruption in electrical power, and a loss of navigational control. That may have caused the ship to be so far off course as to hit a reef well-marked on the charts — they simply didn’t know they were off course..Or not. Accident forensics is not an instant-answer science. In any case, none of this excuses what the captain (and the first mate, who’s reportedly also been “detained”) did: failed to send out a timely distress call, and abandoned the ship. They should both be hung out to dry..The cruise company will have to answer for why there was no lifeboat drill immediately following embarkation, instead of days later, and why the crew was apparently so poorly trained and disorganized in a crisis. Everybody’s human, and humans make mistakes…but responsible ones own up to them and take the consequences.

Someday, my ship will come in. I’ll probably be waiting at the airport.
