Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I googled US 41âŠ. it goes all the way from the Michigan Upper Penninsula to Miami âŠ. but not through much of Illinois except Chicago.
So how far did they (accidentally?) go that theyâre expecting a couple of guys in a gas station to be non-English-speaking?..
Especially when itâs along a major US highway, and the signs are in English.
Is this supposed to be Florida??
GymShoe â sure true about mountains in Illinois.
When I was in Decatur once, I remember I was fascinated watching cars come closer from about 50 miles away, from speck to toy to full-size, with nary a dip nor a hill to momentarily obscure the view.
Happy Friday, Marg! Sadly, that cap would be unoccupied even with Burl wearing it.
And whatchoo mean, Leaky?? You are much closerâŠ. lend them your droid.
The âkeyboardâ on my phone is virtual, not actual keys; when I try to tap individual letters on the screen I often miss.
Swype is a LOT faster, and while the wild guessing drives me nuts sometimes, itâs right more often than wrong, especially with common words.
When you tap out individual letters, it makes the same wild guesses anyway â tries to finish words for you, and you really have to watch that it doesnât put them in.
(Thatâs my excuse for certain language)
But talking would be faster still, if I can get used to it.
Iâve tried itâŠ.it doesnât get odd words but seems to understand ordinary sentences.
I feel silly doing it, but youâre right⊠this is silly too!
Iâm gonna have to make some posts on obscure strips with it, just to test whether or not they stay.
However well it works or doesnât, Iâm still thrilled, like a hick tourist on MarsâŠ.
Itâs a big extravagance for me, in fact I chose it over cable TV.
But having libraries, e-mail, comics and friends in my pocket almost wherever I go is science fiction come true.
I like this one. I live near Highway 41 and the Everglades. I also like the references to Nebraska because thatâs where I grew up. In Nebraska thereâs Omaha and Lincoln, and then the rest of the state is nothing but corn and cattle.
I canât believe that Burl actually stopped and asked for directions. One of the Allman Brothers was born in the backseat of a Greyhound bus rollin down Highway 41. Sorry, I just seem to be ramblinâŠ..
Weâve actually driven the entire length of Highway 41, from the Yewper to the Everglades (over the course of several vacations). Itâs much more interesting than interstates, although in several places it shares the roadway with an interstate. Those mountains are not very impressive and could be in any of several states 41 runs through. We like to think of Route 41 as a north/south Route 66, which we also have done, Chicago to L.A. (Santa Monica, if I recall correctly).
they may be in florida â there was the strip a few days ago about the calgon bag and the trip to âDisneyâ â which could explain burlâs dumb and insensitive question.
I forgot about the Disney trip (and of course theyâre driving, though Amtrac would be even cheaper). @Billdi, I donât think expecting people working in US to speak English is insensitive.
Did anyone else see the Bike Trips on the Florida Everglades brochure. Other than the fact that is impossible, Iâm sure the Pennys never do anything as energetic as a bike trip even on the dry flat lands of IL.

And I have known people that âstupidâ âŠ. but mostly they live in group homes.

Iâd say thereâs a diamond in the rough there somewhere.

They must have early signs of dementia. People with dementia get lost easily. I donât think this is Illinois, or Nebraska. lol

While attending school in Mexico a couple of tourists approached as I was walking to class and asked if I spoke English. My response was, âSĂ.â
jmcx4 about 13 years ago
And my response was âyeah, I see âemâ.

I saw a sign just like the one above, except it said, Sorry, Weâre Open". It was at a restaurant in Matamoros, across the border from Brownsville.

It would be much more plausible if Rod Serling would be standing next to the Pennys, (in every strip)
