A lot of folks still remember the early episodes of “Lost in Space” had a pirate character with a (pretty nifty!) robot parrot on his shoulder. That could be it. I once saw an old black-and-white short in which a metal bird laid a car egg… which hatched into a pretty neat flivver, by some miracle of stop-motion.
