It’s an alien egg. It hatches, the thing inside jumps your face and and enters you through the mouth and some time later it jumps out of you through your chest, dealing unimaginable pain and killing you. I know that and I didn’t even watch that movie.

I heard that during that chestburster scene in the first Alien movie, the actors were told what would happen, but what the director decided to do was not tell them there would be blood everywhere. So when you see them freaking out because the fake blood is hitting them, that’s not acting, that’s their real reactions.
