    @Tony, Sometime in grade school, at the local high. In HS it was part of the PE curriculum which I hated (my hair is slow to dry) and having other classes with wet hair was horrid.

    Oh, and I remember those “tank suits” and the horrid onsies we wore for the rest of PE (this was in the early 50s). Kids now don’t know how lucky they are NOT to remember those.

    I think I took my first lessons about age 5. But, my aunt and uncle had a house on the Chesapeake Bay so was around water from very early on.

    Never had lessons. I sort of taught myself to swim when I was about 12. I do a side stroke kind of thing, but I get from point A to point B. Out ran a 10’ gator one time in the lake we used to swim in, so I guess I do ok.
