@Gymshoe: Thanks for letting us know about Julie’s comment on Thursday’s comic! I’d’ve missed it sure if you hadn’t said something!
@SusanSunshine: Re: Seville oranges: I currently live in VA, and have to special order them. ‘m sorry about your Meyer lemon tree. I adore Meyer lemons, but can only get them in late winter and early spring, so right about now I’m doing all my Meyer lemon stuff (marmalade, curd, tarts, cakes, and even preserved Meyer lemons). Gotta work with what’s in season, and what’s available.
@vldazzle: your freezer jam sounds absolutely delicious! I wish I had the room in our freezers to do freezer jam, but canning is the way I have to go with all our stuff. F’r’instance, we had a HUGE bumper crop of sweet potatoes last year, so I canned sweet potato EVERYthing! LOL! Sweet potato butter, candied sweets, just-plain-cooked sweets, sweet potato pie filling, mashed sweets… the list goes on and on! I wouldn’t BEGIN to have room in the freezers for all those sweet potatoes! But I’m not complaining, since all three families that we look after just love sweet potatoes in any form. Anyhow, canning our crops is the most cost effective and space conserving method.
I should be in bed, shouldn’t I? But here I sit, reading comics and nattering with my Crustwoodian friends. Guess I’m just enjoying the wee bit of snow we’re having. I’m sitting here gazing out the window and watching the last of the flurries. It’s 24ºF/4ºC at the moment, and this is the coldest it’s been around here all year — and the first snow we’ve had this winter!!!
I’ll shut up now. I could yammer away for pages, especially talking about cooking and canning and gardening!
Hmmmm, I wonder if anyone in Crustwood gardens? Burl planted a fake tree once, I remember THAT!
Hi Susan,et alI was reading everyone’s comments this morning. I am glad that you told TDS readers that I always use the same several scenes because that is their comfort zone. Also, I will always keep them in the ’90’s as to me , that is one of the worst decades of styles in all categories….not to mention they are all too inept(like me) of embracing new technology.
Thanks for everyone’s comments!I thoroughly enjoy them! Keep up the good work!Best to All, Julie Larson.
Good Sunday morning all! @Purple, I DO wish sometimes that my freezer were larger, but cooking usually just for myself, it will have to do. I just peel, slice and parboil my yams before freezing and 2 large ones last for 4 or 6 servings (great with some black beans and sliced turkey)I guess the Pennys consider that fine dining (catsup on the table and a paper napkin dispenser for Joy to empty)I was wondering how Leaky was going to show himself and Marge; I was looking up directions for compiling an animated GIF -so I can draw one of Fitzroy (I think my free Irfanview can do that).

Why the 8 pennies of course Burl.
That waiter’s served them before, I’m sure. He sounded way too sarcastic.

What are they doing in a fine dining establishment? There must be some mistake.

Burl has THAT much in cash? I hope he meant “in change”. I hate to think of Burl with a credit card…
