Perhaps the tail of the “e” on the line above it blended in with the one and made it look like a four. If you would please, go back to yesterday’s strip and use your browser’s zoom feature and enlarge it to see what I mean. I have all the Annie comics that GoComics has archived, and I assure you this is from 2001, not 2004.
@LucianDragos – The police sergeant certainly does look like Chief Wiggins from the Simpsons.

And I agree with the other comments thus far. The resolution on this Sunday strip is awful!
