    Morning, Anniephans.@NightGaunt – Yes. You have hit the nail on the head. Although she has never been officially and legally adopted, Warbucks is accepted as her legal guardian, with Amelia acting as caretaker in his absence. The legalities of it have never been explained in the comic strip, at least to my knowledge.Another thing. The word “Orphan” was dropped from the title of the strip for a different reason. During the 60s and 70s, the strip’s popularity waned so badly that it was in danger of being cancelled. But when the Broadway play was released, popularity increased. Tribune hired Leonard Starr from “Mary Perkins on Stage” to revive the strip and it was renamed “Annie” instead of “Little Orphan Annie” after the Broadway play.
