Burl’s equirements are interesting. When my dad was 75, I asked him why he was so popular with the ladies, since he hadn’t been up until then. He told me that he had several advantages over his previous competition; he was alive, he hadn’t had a stroke, he knew how to dance, and he was easy to get along with! Devastating! What he didn’t mention was that he could still, well, you know. (I’d tell you but Susan reads this and you know how she blushes.) When he died at 79, I asked my stepmother what had happened and she said that they were in bed “relaxing.” Exit stage left, laughing.

I thought Joy and Verla might have been twins, but I see now I was wrong. So, is Joy the elder of the two?

G’morning, Crustwood….. y buenos dias, Leaky and aloha, GymShoe —

Does Burl even realise his hat says “Birthday Girl?”

Marg, I don’t think Verl and Jer are quits, exactly….I think Jerry just avoids things like …. well….gift-giving, sentiment, special occasions, spending money… you know, the usual.

Tomorrow he’ll call Verl and act like nothing happened.

She’s torn between wishing for romance and hopelessly “loving” that creep.

But her kitchen motto says that love is never saying no and never letting go —

So she’ll “take him back”…. and he won’t even know she “broke up” with him.

Purple — I’ve always thought Joy must be older, cos of the way she tells Verl what to do.

And Verl seems to look up to Joy…. but as her “relationship” with Jerry shows, it could just be that she has no self-esteem.

Mikie…. my Dad lost his…. (blush) ability and even his mind, but even at 89, with severe Alzheimer’s, he was catnip to the ladies in his (albeit also incapacitated) circle.

Why? Bright blue eyes, a big vocabulary, a soldier’s bearing and a charming smile.GymShoe! Do NOT eat that cake! This is the Pennys’ house. You don’t know where it’s been.Besides, you’d have to wear a “Birthday Girl” hat.

He’s saying that, since she’s with Jerry, she needs to wish something male instead.

Good Sunday morn, all!Leaky, those wind chimes can’t make any music, so I hope they were at last your favorite brand; I heard on the news there is a craft beer fest this weekend, but lots else to do. I think I’ll attend Baronial court. They actually have 4 matching mugs today; I wonder if it’s a set with the hats – cheap stuff, Burls string already broke.

@Leaky, I’m not a beer drinker either, but your redneck windchime looks like cans to me. I don’t like the looks of crawfish for eating. My son, Mike used to bring the things home as pets from a local pond. I have not bought any seafood here lately because it always smells. I bought Mike a fishing license last time he visited, for the park ponds that are stocked with trout etc. We spent 2 lovely afternoons at Encanto (watching the ducks and swans) but no catch, so we went home to steak on the grill.

OK, Happy Birthday, Verl! I hope those cheapskates got you at least one thing you like in those little boxes. Only thing I can think of was one of my Mom’s favs – some Fanny Mae truffles. My parents had those every day. I prefer plain dark Green and Black’s 70%, but also like their expresso 70%.

I get no refunds (no deductions) so no reason to file early. I just hope not to pay much. My twice a year RE tax keeps increasing while home values slip, but I hope never to leave mine (until it’s permanent- should have another 2 decades)

Internet stuff is very convenient; I pay all my bills online and when I go yearly for a full blood panel, they can email me full results in 2 days. I take no meds, but my cholesterol is a good range and everything else looks fine too.

Marg, when I dozed off for a few winks, I had a dream that a crate of windchimes fell on your other foot and you had to wear a cast for another six months.

    I didn’t see this yesterday, maybe that’s a good thing…

@Marge, the chocolate truffles are even sold in pairs (good for party favors). That was the only small present that I could think they might spring for, and Verl would like.

@Leaky, I’ve never delt with a whole lobster either and I don’t like to eat meat with the bones left in it – all too messy. Even my turkey breast gets carved into slices in the kitchen so after one operation I only deal with slices. When raising my family there were many things (such as ribs) that I would cook, but never eat. I love most fruits and veggies but I also prepare in the kitchen before I sit down to eat – no mess in the dining room with my pretty hand hooked rugs. Or only painting mess on the table if I’m doing calligraphy and illumination.

@Leaky, Fitz goes to bed soon after dark, though I see at the time of your posting, 3 little girls from down the street were trying to feed him some seed bugs (and he was not interested) but I was reading in the front yard. I love oysters baked with creamed spinach and parmesan, tried raw just once (as bad as okra) and skins/shells are the same nuisance to me as bones. I like clean food.

I loves to eat them lobsters….Lobsters what I loves to eat…Bite they little heads offNibble at they tiny feet…..

Ok, that’s actually a Kliban cat song about mousies…

and I haven’t had lobster in years cos it’s SO expensive here…. but I love it.Except for the bones of course.

Now and then I get a whole crab….. mmmm…. Steam it, crack it and eat it, hot or cold.

Dungeness, maybe 2 lbs with the shell.

I don’t think they’re the same as what they’d grill on the Gulf coast, but I don’t know. Never seen anybody try.

I do love chewing on ribs, lamb or pork chop bones, etc.

Never occurred to me they were “dirty!”

If you only eat as far as you can with a knife and fork, just pass me the rest.

Raw oysters, though….. brrrr…. they’re all squishy … and they have these eyes….

    No, no….pass..

Dazz, do you only buy pre-shelled pistachios?

A lobster tail (small, but still 2 portions for me) is often on sale for $5, And whether at home or in restaurant, I only like rare filet or prime rib (latter I don’t do at home because I would not be able to save for later). No T-bone or even ribeye for me. I trim off all the fat.
