I was part of a board that ran a club a few years ago. We had an opening for club manager, and whittled down the 8 applicants to two who were equally qualified and interviewed equally well. Actually did a coin toss for the selection, and ended up with Ms X. Boy, was that a mistake. She turned out to be a power-hungry, aggressive micro manager. All the staff hated her within a month. We tried everything to get her to tone down, but she ended up being disruptive to the board, as well. Fired her after 6 months, and it turned out Mr Y was still available, and took the job. Best manager we ever had. Lasted 5 years before he took another position that doubled his pay. Sometimes it’s a crap shoot.
