She might be a bit like my grandmother. If someone “grownup” had tried to help they got run out of the kitchen with a broom, a.because the kitchen was too small and b. that was the way she was. After dinner was a different story, everyone was welcome to help with the cleanup.
Growing up, we all went to my Grandmother’s on Christmas day. We helped where we could with dinner. After dinner the men did “all” the dishes in the basement washtub. The ladies still did the delicate dishes in the kitchen sink.
I believe the rule was once a man was 18 he was expected to pitch in with the dishes. It was a rite of passage.
Now, our family has grown so large we rent a hall the Sunday before Christmas. One of the young men/older boys is coerced into putting on the red suit to play the part. This year Santa was my niece’s 17 year old boyfriend, we all met for the first time. The kid was petrified and never even said “ho, ho” once.
Lynn’s gift (shared with us) is to see the humor in the snapshots of life. Seeing how Mike turned out, you know that Elly’s response would be a loving lesson on the value of the entire day and season. If only those lessons would have addressed the “veiled in flesh the Godhead see” underlying meaning of the day.
what you don’t see is john cleaning up the kitchen
after all the plates are cleared. hey it happens!
like two irish guys leaving a pub, not offend enough, but it happens.
Geez , I totally relate to Micheal. At least when I was his age. Remember he’s only six in the comic right now. At that age my only thought about Christmas was the presents and the cartoons. To me dinner just happened. I’m sure that most of you were like that at that age. So cut him some slack.

Is that brat already tired of all his gifts? That sure didn’t take long. And why isn’t John helping with the dinner since he’s home?
Merry Christmas everyone!
