@Llewellenbruce – about 10 years ago we had to put our cat down and it would have cost about $30-40 for a marked grave but it was really out in the country too.
Awww! So sad. :( In 2001 we had to have our Boston Terrier put down. For the cremation and wooden urn it was $125.00 and we had to get our own inscribed plate for it. Still miss her a lot. We have another BT that will be 13 years old in July. So we know we will be going through this again.
My friend wants to be buried with his dog (Abe’s) ashes. Abe died at 15 a few years ago. I lost a cat to a coyote in 2009; it hurt more than I thought it would.
I remember going to a circus one time, and one of the elephants had died. Beside him was a man that was really upset and bawling. Someone said “You must have been really attached to that elephant.” “It’s not that – I have been selected to bury him.”
I read that an elephant is buried in Illinois along the Mississippi River north-east of Burlington, Iowa. As I recall, the circus was in town and he was struck by lightning. Anyone with more details?

We’ve had our last two deceased cats cremated — in each case, the ashes were returned to us in a very nice small wooden box with a brass nameplate.
