    He said 1930s, not 1830s. California became a US state in 1850, hence Mexican nationals could be deported.

    I was just debating with my wife last night whether the case could be made that SoCal is the most racist part of the country (we live in the OC now, formerly big-city midwesterners). There is certainly more overt racism evident here than I’ve experienced in Chicago, Detroit or Memphis, for example. History seems to back me up: 1930s “repatriation”, 1940s Zoot Suit riots, 1960s Watts riots, Rodney King riots…
