Elliott’s gotta learn that there are two standards of male behavior – women around, women not around. Pay close attention, kid. Your dad’s passing along some real wisdom.
I always try to get the kids to rinse their dishes before putting them in the dishwasher! Thing is, their mom never had them do it before, so a lot of the dishes still have 2 meals’ worth of grime on them!
I never had either dishwasher or disposal before this house. I still compost most food waste and hand wash dishes and pans unless they have special conditions or I have a huge bunch from some messy cooking; I always us it to sterilize anything that held raw meats or messy/spoiled veg.
Two things needed to be able to not scrape the plates before loading: 1) Major chunks need to be scraped into the sink-bowl which has the disposal in the drain, because they won’t go through the dishwasher’s 3/4" drain. 2) The feedwater to the dishwasher MUST BE at least 170°F so that proper cleaning will occur. The other thing to check for is the power of the dishwasher’s pump. Will it successfully blast the catchup, sauce, gravy, etc., from the plates’ surfaces?

I don’t have a dishwasher (except my 2 hands) so I don’t have to worry about it.

I love being able to use straight hot water in my dishwasher. My dishes not only got clean but were practically sterilized.
