(Big) Johnny Rivers is (was?) a smooth, country-type singer back in the 60s-early 70’s. My favorite is his rendition of Smoky Robinson’s “Tracks Of My Tears.”

Johnny Rivers is a 60’s-70’s pop singer who had hits like “Secret Agent Man,” “Memphis, TN,” who performed some songs like “The 7th Son”, “Midnight Special” (Also performed by Credence Clearwater Revival), & “Sway into the music” ("Slow Dancing). He performed earlier recorded songs at the LA nightclub Whiskey of Go-go Most of the songs were remakes, but his song, “Poor Side of the Town,” was his only #1 Pop hit and it was co-written by Johnny Rivers and someone else!

I couple of years ago, I purchased Johnny Rivers Greatest Hits on CD. These songs were hits when I was just a baby! Anyway, I listen to mostly Country music stations and oldies stations in which I sometimes Mr. Rivers belting out songs like “Tracks of my Tears” and “Rock and Roll Pneumonia and Boogle Woogle Flu.” I’d rather listen to these stations than acts like Katy Perry, Lady Ga-Ga, or some profaned-laced rap act. That’s garbage!

Anyway, I like how the Gilcrist’s put in remembrances of music stars that have passed away and loved. Davey Jones, Rest in Peace.

Didn’t Johnny Rivers do a song titled: Summer Rain? It came out in ’68. It was about the year before during the Summer of Love.

Definitely remember “Smilin’ Jack.” Written (drawn) during WW2 by a member of Civil Air Patrol.
