The whole problem with the caller ID trick is that no one under 30 uses a land line anymore. It’s so 90’s. If you ever expect to heart from your kids again you have to answer every call because, unless it’s a Red Hatter, the only ID you’ll get is a cell phone number. Telemarketers know this and use cell phones.
An option that I liked to use with telemarketers in the days before I could screen them out was to ask them to “please hang on one minute,” then set the phone down and go about my business. 20 or so minutes later I’d go back to the phone and hang it up. I don’t know how long the telemarketer stayed on the line, but it was nice to know that however long they were waiting for me, they weren’t bugging somebody else.
