Rj: Some say that the new ipad is nothing but an object lesson in planned obsolescence and overpriced snob appeal. verne: It's a good thing we judge value only by monetary cost. verne: ...or we'd be forced to admit that we're shallow, style-conscious status seeking boobs. RJ: That would be bad.

Puny earthlings. You have discovered the weakness by which we will defeat you, as we fill your lives with worthless objects and materialism, robbing you of the spirit and moral fiber necessary to resist our invasion.

Oh, is Sharper Image back from bankruptcy? I hadn’t noticed. Too bad, when they started up they had some decent stuff and were not priced out in the stratosphere.

I wonder how much it would really cost to make in the US? Does anyone one what the real production cost is for it? One website says that it is $375.

Be careful with your claims in your rant. It is intersting that the “PC snobs” have continued to dismiss Apple products as “toys” not suited for “serious” work while JPL used an Apple II to display the first photos that revealed volcanoes on Io (yes, a mainframe did the “heavy lifting”), UCSD used Macs for the user interface with their Cray, and if you are interested in creative work in Hollywood you use a Mac. And the Apple user interface is so “useless and childlike” (as another anti-Apple" ranter claimed in Byte magazine) that Microsoft licensed it from Apple. Do you long for the “friendly” (not) command line user interface? That’s what we would undoubtedly still be using if Jobs and the Apple team had not recognized the posibilities when they saw the windowing GUI during a visit to Xerox Park.

Isn’t is supposed to be that the definition of a cynic is one who knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing?
