Wind IS now cheaper than coal. The thing is, electricity DOES take a combination of alternatives to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Oh, right, Ramirez and friends don’t WANT any conservation or reduction in consumption! “Drill baby drill” IS a planetary plan for “die, sucker, die!”
BTW, we don’t want Iran to have reactors, but WE just licensed two more in Georgia. While nukes aren’t my “favorite”, they will be part of the solution, WORLD-WIDE. So why do WE get to “pick and choose” who gets to use ’em? Many nations DO use nukes for energy, but not bombs. Maybe if Israel just had “peaceful” nukes, THEIR neighbors might feel more at ease?
@trout: unbelievable that you try to draw some kind of moral equivalence between nuclear reactors in Iran and reactors in Georgia. Can’t believe I actually have to explain this, but here’s the difference: Georgia isn’t threatening to nuke its neighboring states; Iran is. Read their government’s recent “kill all Jews, annihilate Israel” manifesto. And why should Israel’s neighbors feel uneasy about Israel’s nukes? Is there any credible evidence that Israel plans to nuke their neighbors? The neighbors that feel uneasy are probably the ones that are threatening Israel.
Ramirez isn’t trying to stop wind power (or solar, or even algae) in this cartoon. Rather, he’s pointing out that if you want a reliable energy source then you have to simultaneously have a policy of developing fossil fuel resources – and this president doesn’t.
ARodney; So not only are you an international expert on just about everything, you’re also a farmer?I never realized how many polymaths you loony-libs have in your ranks…
Jack: I caught a typo, and corrected it, which led to a “re-post”, and I think we posting at about the same time. I think that when I made the correction, my “initial” post moved, that is what put mine after yours.

BTW, we have quite a few farmers with wind towers in the middle of their fields, they plant, then just harvest around the towers. Agricultural land loss to wind is a very minor impact. Bird loss etc. are also going down with improved designs, but any source causes some “pain”, for someone, or something.

Um… you can farm under windmills. You can’t farm near Fukushima. Just sayin.
