in the book “Twenty Years After” by Alexandre Dumas, which follows the further adventures of the 3 Musketeers and D’Artangon, he has two of the four friends finding themselves facing off against the other two in battle. They had been seperated by the years, and did not know they were on opposite sides of a political problem. Interesting plot devise.
