Productivity is increased by the fact that IT won’t have to spend time training you how to use the program, or fixing the problems that you will inevitably make because you don’t understand how to use the program they failed to train you in how to use. Obviously.

Those were the good ol’ days … Hey! You guys start coding and I’ll go ask the users what they need!

Typically it’s the other way around for me. They only want me to show them the minimum when I’m willing to show them more.

I started developing software in 1968, and my first priorities have always been meeting my user’s needs and keeping them happy. Unfortunately, some managers insist on getting between developers and users, This can lead to poor user manuals and a poorly designed user interface. Under those circumstances, users have an amazing ability to make things go wrong. Communication between developers and users is vital to the success of any software project.

It’ll save them time from fixing everything after “Hey, I wonder what this does.”
