Then, after WWII, with better disease control, chickens could be “mass produced” thus bringing down the price per each, ie the chicken factories of tens of thousands today. (Unfortunately, competition has led to some bad fates, ie recently when an operation went bankrupt and thousands of hens were just abandonded)
