I don’t know the name of the story, or which book it was in; but I read a sf story about space explorers, taking one of Earth’s last dogs, making a trade treaty with a group of dog-like aliens. At the end, they realized they thought the telepathic aliens thought the dog was the master, and the humans the servents. The story ended with the dog wagging its tail.
