I HAVE COME TO EAT YOUR BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIE
It’s ‘Atishoo’ not ‘Ashes’. The roses and the posies were supposed to protect against bad air carrying plague. First symptom was sneezing. Last symptom was mass death.
In our cemetery, the flowers that families put on the gravesites are usually artificial, which actually makes perfect sense. I suggest that being “cheap” has nothing to do with it: they’re well-made and look brilliantly natural, and they do last much longer than the few days that natural cut flowers would — especially in our Texas weather. (Nor are they inexpensive, BTW. Besides, who visits a cemetery just to critique the quality of other people’s remembrances? And who cares if they do?).And Hillbillyman, no one is stealing from the dead. They own nothing, and are beyond caring by anyone’s understanding. If anything, you’re stealing from the living family and friends who left them there, and disrespecting their feelings — which is pretty tacky, it’s true, if not a crime.

Blanch never strikes me as all that bad. Provided I don’t have to look at her. She gets a raw deal.

A neighbor of mine did this one year for Mother’s Day. What happened next was NOT pretty.
