Satchel: I need a pen! Bucky: Really? Why? Satchel: I'm tired of Bucky thinking he's solo much smarter than me because he writes his little stories! Well, I can' write, too! I'm gonna write better than him! Here we go, write! Write! ...write? Pen no write. Rob: Take the cap off. Satchel: Ok, write!

Poor Satch. He should stay away from Bucky and just curl up at the foot of the bed. Then he would achieve dog nirvana.

If the pen won’t work, try a Sharpei marker.

Lots of people fall into Bucky’s and Satchel’s error. It’s not that easy to “just write something”, even if you have something to say, or think you have. Ask me how I know this.I was convinced I was going to be a writer when I grew up.Then I thought I was going to be a librarian. Now, I just read. A lot.

You go, Satch.

He should write a story where he and Bucky end up getting separated from Rob and have to trek thousands of miles (putting up with Bucky will be a major sub-plot) through the United States to get back.

That bit about writers and writing rings very true here. Still going for it, though. I’m actually enjoying the struggle, and am learning lots of peripheral factoids along the way…and no, that’s NOT the philosophical lesson, darn it. The lesson is about “How to effectively do the Work…”
This time I’m being more thorough by far, and mapping out and planning the project, just like the second wife, bless her smart little pretty head…tried to teach and tell me nigh onto a hundred years ago, more or less. I’m getting it. Slow, but getting it.

take your time satch, remember the best stories come from real life experience. maybe if this strip was split up in to 3 more panels it would come to you.

You can put a pen to paper, but you can’t make it write.

Once before I could read or write, I carefully made what looked to me like lines of handwriting. Then asked mom to read it.It was a shock to me because I thought I really Had written something!
