Godfrey āthe problem is that there arenāt a lot of homophones for āboatsāā¦ and Iām pretty fussy about thatā¦Now, itās possible that some ancient navies had yew boats, but they wooden be sub standard..that is, theyād be substandard.Even if there were two boats.
Yew was (were?) more commonly in use (yews?) for bowsā¦ not boat bows but bows for archersā¦itās very flexibleā¦ but not flexible enough for wordplay.So, sorry, but I couldnāt nail it.
