Their regular teacher, Mr. Petey Boat, went on a cruise. This new teacher is about to really submerge them in the sea of Mathematics.

Hey, whereā€™d Hoagie go? Anyway, my hero is a poor boy. But Iā€™d as soon eat a torpedo as a sub any day.

He will teach them sub-sets in math, and the subjunctive mood in grammar, and sub-prime loans in economics!

Theyā€™ll never see their regular teacher again. The administration found out he eats torpedoes for lunch.

Plus different substances in Chemistry, and how to suborn a ruling regime in Political Science, and he will object to the way the principal subtracts his authority and the government subtracts his paycheck. Now we need some ā€œU-boatā€ punsā€¦ā€¦..

Godfrey ā€”the problem is that there arenā€™t a lot of homophones for ā€œboatsā€ā€¦ and Iā€™m pretty fussy about thatā€¦Now, itā€™s possible that some ancient navies had yew boats, but they wooden be sub standard..that is, theyā€™d be substandard.Even if there were two boats.

Yew was (were?) more commonly in use (yews?) for bowsā€¦ not boat bows but bows for archersā€¦itā€™s very flexibleā€¦ but not flexible enough for wordplay. So, sorry, but I couldnā€™t nail it.

(OK Susanā€¦. how long can yew stretch this? Time to leaf. )
