Thank you, Jim Unger, for your dry wit and elegant artistic style. A “Herman” cartoon holds the top spot in my all time favorite single panel memories. Herman is standing in a vets office holding a box with four legs sticking out of it. The caption: “He won’t eat.”
How about – fat woman standing in front of maitre d’s podium in restaurant – sign says, ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET – he’s on the phone to presumably the wait staff saying:BATTLE STATIONS!
That’s unfortunate to hear of Unger’s passing, I’ve enjoyed Herman for decades.
I wasn’t thinking “smart arrows” when I saw this – my thought was the contemporary trend to stick miniature cameras on everything, especially when doing something stupid.
I have a Herman Treasury copyright 1986.On the cover is a patient with a giant band aid on his hairy back and the doctor says “D’you want me to pull it off fast or slow?”
Favorite Unger cartoon. October 1992 – Native American in a canoe. Offshore are three boats. Caption – Further evidence that history is a matter of perspective. The Native American is tell his chief, “I’ve just discovered Europeans.”
