@SUSAN NEWMANSome couples did sleep in separate beds, and a few still do, but it never caught on. As one advice columnist (Ann Landers?) wrote, “men do enough commuting during the day” in answer to a woman who asked about getting separate beds.

Concerning Adam’s clock trick. I pull a variety of that trick. I set the alarm to wake me up an hour before I want to get up. That allows me to let the dog out and go back to bed to sleep one more hour if I need to.
