@greg_liu: These days, language formal enough to make that case distinction via inflection is generally too formal to contain first-person pronouns at all. In informal English, the difference between “I” and “me” is mostly that “I” is more polite, especially in the “somebody and I” construction.

Case in modern English is determined not by inflection but entirely by position — in this example, “I” is clearly in the objective case, because it is the object of the preposition “of”, which you can easily tell by looking at its position in the sentence. HTH.HAND.

jonadab, You are wrong. Nominative v objective case has nothing to do with courtesy. This is similar to the error people make by saying things like, “If you have questions, call my wife or myself” instead of “my wife or me” because they think they are being more formal.

“I and my shadow, strolling down the avenue”?? Yeah, family and me.Now all they need is another one to take a picture of the 4 of them.

I guess I have no business chiming in on the I/me argument.

It should read “my family and ME”.

“My family and I” is just plain illiteracy. It’s awful. But, actually, it’s redundant, too. “Family” is inclusive. There’s no need for anything to follow. Maybe “us” would have been even better.

“Would you mind taking a quick picture of my family, and I will go stand over there…”

That should be, “my family and ME,”

That egregious grammatical error is so embarrassing. How does anyone miss that? And its permanent now for all the world to see, forever. Sad.
