Never minded being on duty at the FD on the 4th. Upside was being on fire watch downtown for the fireworks, so close I could see them light off. Downside was chasing after all the illegal ones that started fires around the city.

My son is working today — he’s a 9-1-1 dispatcher for our local PD. (Right: he’s going to have an interesting day!) Today is just another day in his shift’s normal work schedule, which I guess makes him a Plugger — young-cool-guy division. :)

I guess this makes my daughter a plugger. She will work 15 hours today as an attendant in an altzheimer’s (sp) nursing home.

Yep, been doing that for 32 years, in fact just now got off work and got home to check my toons! Get time and a half plus another day off with pay, or double time and a half and no day off, my choice.

many folks who work on holidays are technically NOT pluggers. it is just that their work schedule has them working on the days that used to be normally not worked on due to the old “Blue Laws”. folks who used to get holidays off like cashiers, security guards, stock boys, to mention a few.
