Petey, for once you are wrong! Isn’t it nice how happy Mom and Dad have made Alice—she’s just beaming in all 3 panels!

Does Petey use one of those divider plates?

It will turn out to be some incredibly rare mutated plant, and Alice will have picked the only known sample of it. Of course, it will die because it can only possibly grow in a yard which is known not to be able to sustain life . . .

And how does it smell?—Terrible!

I’ve got weeds that look pretty much like that in my yard – they basically appear full-grown (can be almost 1 metre high) overnight.

“It’s got a thing on top that smells.” Great line. Usually the best lines are reserved for the kids, but it’s nice to see Mrs. Otterloop getting a good one every now and then.

Makes for a great dinner conversation piece though, doesn’t it? Well, doesn’t it? :-D
