    Last year I had to ask the night nurses if they were there to alleviate suffering or make it worse—they didn’t want to call the doctor who was on-call because it was after midnight, and he’d be asleep!! Didn’t seem to matter that the patient was in so much pain, he couldn’t sleep at all.

    Doctor most likely wasn’t sleeping, but figuring out how much to bill you for services rendered.You’re definitely not going to be sleeping nights after receiving it in the mail.

    @orinoco womble – Yeah your health care is “free” if you don’t count the taxes.

    And such taxes are gladly paid. They get human dignity in exchange for their tax money. Healthcare for all is a basic human RIGHT!Here, we pay hellish tax rates while megaconglomerates such as G.E. pay zilch. (Lobbyists, "campaign “donations” tax lawyers, loopholes) ad nauseam.They’re the wonderful “job creators” (in China, Singapore, India, etc.).Commit the sin of getting sick here , and you could lose everything you’ve worked a lifetime for.The British pay far more in gas taxes, too, but it supports the NHS there-free healthcare for ALL.We’ll never live long enough to see that here. Forget it.Did you notice the elaborate tribute to their NHS at the start of the Olympics?They’re grateful to have such a system, and to pay for it.

    Thank God there are some, such as those in your country, who are able to live in a civilised country.Best wishes to you and all those there.Saw one poster from another country , in reference to the healthcare system here as “…….backwaters, such as the U.S”. He was right on target.Socialism is a dirty word here, made into such by those who totally lack empathy and compassion, thinking such things are for suckers. Living in disgrace is “patriotic”, it seems.Jesus is the greatest socialist who ever lived.Know this from reading the Webster’s Dictionary definition of socialism.

    @All posters

    For a preview of how Medicare will look after being converted to a voucher system by reeps, please check out the following.

    This would be laughable if not so tragic.What those of the elephant party have cooked up for us if they win.And they’ll then set busily to work wrecking every piece of progressive legislation ever enacted.(Social Security. Medicaid, and anything providing help for the poor and minorities).In the meantime, they’re hard at work designing clever little voter suppression measures to block poor and minorities from voting. They tend to vote the wrong way, and they (reeps)wish to rig the election.Yet, as we’re reminded at election time, guys go into the service partly for the reason of protecting the right to vote.How very “patriotic” of the reeps.

    Socialised healthcare is not “Socialism.” Everyone outside the US is aware of this.I’ve lived under both systems. I know which one works. No one here has to choose, as my elderly aunt sometimes did in the Midwest, “between food, heat and medicine.” (her words)

    Then there was the company that produced the three mile tube—the i.v. league.

    @ GildenRoya—I agree—but the library is lending you valuable books! The voting booth is only electing our leaders.

    No, he didn’t. And no, they aren’t. But no one will convince you of anything you don’t want to know.
