I recall one time that Garfield failed to communicate with Jon and then wished he could talk.
Jim Davis settled the Garfield question in a strip last year. Jon specifically said he cannot understand what Garfield “says.”
Something similar started to happen with Mother Goose in the mid ’90s.
I love how the “bum” is reading Barney’s mind in the last panel. LOL
