that’s why we used to leave at 2 or 3 in the morning.. Mom and dad let us stay up till we would leave and by the time we were in the car, we were all fast asleep and spent most of the 14 hour trip that way.
Any vacation is a good vacation, even the one we took where we ran out of gas, it was during the gas crisis and gas stations closed up, even in Baltimore, at 7 PM.and had to sleep in a Hyatt Regency parking lot because every motel/hotel in town was booked for the Baltimore Orioles game! (And to top it off, we had our 2 dogs with us, and it rained! And we were in a Chevy Nova! We were headed to the Chesapeake Bay, never got there! Ended up at Hershey Park.
Time to stop at a rest area.A chance to separate those two while they cool down, and dad to decompress.Picnic table benches work for time outs. or, for application of parental discipline to the seat of the problem.

I’m thinking that would be HIS vacation, not a family vacation. LOL!

If any of us kids behaved like that in the car my father would explode like a volcano. We were very quiet in the back seat.

Well actually, some years later, with our then young sons, we did make it to Havre De Grace, Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay.
