    I think Ebi is the Japanese name for something that is used in sushi.

    “Ebi” is also the Japanese word for shrimp, prawn and spiny lobster.

    Does it say something about the viewers of this strip that so many of us recognize the pun on a song that was popular 30ish (?) years ago

    Indeed, ebi is Japanese for prawn and shrimp. Ise ebi is the Japanese for lobster. And to decipher the comments, hamachi is a type of fish and okayu is rice porridge. The fact that the strip is about sushi should have been a clue.
