The words may be silly but conceptually it’s hard to argue with mutually supportive solidarity. And at least in our church, nonhierarchical became the norm when we did away with the “obey” part of the vows back in 1928. I am not sure why mutually supportive would be boring, however. It’s only because of a mutually supportive marriage that I learned how to ride a motorcycle and fly planes and go venturing in India. But hey, if non-supportive makes your life more interesting, knock yourself out.
