"Mom told me I was making everyone uncomfortable with all the questions and that I should just accept that Santa and Jesus share the same holiday." "Therefore, you must accept it. So let us both celebrate these different aspects of Christmas with equal fervor." "I'm just saying Christmas is a holiday celebrating the life of the ultimate figure in the Christian religion. Why does it need all of the trees and gifts and all that other junk that has nothing to do..." "I said accept it or I'll punch you good." "OK, I will."
The cow is right. She should know that much of the rest of the parts of Christmas is a syncretism of other religions before Christianity around the hibernal solstice. Mostly around agriculture, these “pagans” (country folk) came into Christianity with their religious holidays. For example, today is Yule, the Wiccan holiday of the rebirth of the sungod (red) and reincarnation (green in a circular wreath).
