Crankshaft by Tom Batiuk and Dan Davis for March 22, 2023

Golly whillikers, everyone, we’re back at the Komix Korner! Why, there hasn’t been a “Crankshaft” strip set in Westview’s beloved manchild hangout in over eight weeks!

Can anyone explain again why Batiuk went to the trouble of retiring “Funky Winkerbean” if he’s simply going to import half the cast here and continue the comic book-themed buffoonery that weighed down that strip in its final years?

I enjoy this strip and Funky Winkerbean. I’m not trying to start something, but if all people want to do is criticize it, why are you reading it? There are strips I don’t care for and so I don’t follow them. It’s that simple.

If you want “bad” puns: A bunch of geese are called a gaggle of geese. What do you call a bunch of retreating rabbits?

A receding hare-line.

If you want more “bad” puns: All the Ants in an ant colony are very healthy. Since the colony is crawling with anti-bodies.

But has anybody moved into the vacant store area below the comic shop now that Montoni’s has closed?

And are we ever going to find out what Funky and Holly and all the people who worked there are doing for income now?

Bringing in the Comics store… I called it. Next will be an appearance of The Band Box..

Why is he there? Didn’t his comics get thrown out?

More Funky characters intertwined with Crankshaft. Was there a time warp?

I think it’s good that these minor characters from Funky Winkerbean can still find work!

Nice to see that some of the characters from Funky Winkerbean have been resurrected here.

Well, things have changed a bit: less time with Lillian and her girls, less time in the coffee shop with his buddies, and hardly any time in the bus drivers’ lounge. And what about Keesterman’s mailbox?

Last time I checked J.J., no one’s forcing you to read this, and besides, never read a FW comic.
