    Um… when have birds EVER been electrocuted even on a telephone wire?

    A lot of telephone and power wires have moved underground, but protecting the birds had nothing to do with it. Protecting the wires from storms and branches, thus lowering maintenance costs was the reason. Birds can safely sit on high voltage power lines as long as their wingspread is less than the distance between wires. Larger birds seldom perch on wires.
