On those extra hot days I played in the basement. I was never at a loss for fun activities. I still am not.

Alice, remember 20 degree days? Remember snow suits you couldn’t move in? Remember walking like a penguin and falling anyway? Remember not being able to wait till school got out? Now GET THE HECK OUT BEFORE I CRAM YOU IN THE FREEZER AND MAKE CUL DE SACICLES! Thank you.

Alice, moving to OH finally almost cured me of the “summertime blues”–maybe you can petition Mom!

I can remember as a kid feeling cold in the winter, coming in with numb fingers and toes and nose. But I don’t remember ever feeling hot in the summer. Kids aren’t supposed to feel the heat! (I wouldn’t have stayed in the house anyway – it was hotter inside than outside under the trees.)

I feel her pain. In AZ, it’s rarely humid (except during monsoon), but often ridiculously hot in June, And you don’t want the air to move.

Yes, I love AZ and the pool water gets SOO nice and warm when the daytime highs go over 100. I love doing laps at dusk. During the day I’d rather read, sew or watch TV indoors (except a little in the morning). Today I managed to get through one chapter after I pulled a few weeds in my garden.

Grew up in AZ, and hated when my flip flops melted to the sidewalk.

Although, when I was Alice’s age, we used to have a competition of how many times we could run back and forth across the street barefooted before we had to stop and cool off on our “lawn” (aka: bullhead thorns with some scraggly grass in spots).

    Fun times.

Also love how Alice has excellent “Child’s Pose” form in the first two frames. Priceless.

I’m thinking Alice must be here in AR, where it’s supposed to be 100 tomorrow and the humidity is WAY up there, I mean I love the heat and it’s ALMOST too much for me but I agree with Destiny23, I don’t remember being hot as a kid and we always had plenty to do between riding bikes, playing tag football, sneaking down the creek or just making snowcones at someone’s house in that Peanuts slushy maker!

I was born in SC but you wouldn’t know it–I don’t do well in the heat and never have. Spent the summer months with perpetual heat rash–not much fun. However, it didn’t keep me from playing outside anyway.

Good grief, what happened to the days when parents would drop their kids off at the mall or the cinema all day?!? Give ‘em a dollar and pick ‘em up at sundown.

It’s rarely mentioned in the strip, but the sleepy town of Cul de Sac is a suburb of Washington D.C.

Current temperature 91 F, humidity of 32%. Expected to reach 99 on Wednesday.

(Here in lovely San Francisco, it’s a wonderful 72…)
